Wangdue Phodrang Travel Guide

The last town before central Bhutan, Wangdiphodrang is like an enlarged village with a few well-provided shops. Located towards the south of Punakha, the higher reaches ofWangdiphodrang the Wangdiphodrang valley provides rich pastureland for cattle. This district is also famous for its fine bamboo work and its slate, stone carvings.

Wangdiphodrang Dzong: Sitting on top of the hill at the confluence of Punakha Chhu and Tang Chhu rivers, Wangduephodrang Dzong is the town's most visible feature. The Dzong is open for visitors during Wangduephodrang Tsechu celebrated in autumn. NOTE: Now Wangduephodrang Dzong is no longer available for a visit as it is completely gutted down by the devastating fire on 24th June 2012.
