Cycling / Biking is getting more popular as an adventure tour in India. Riding a bike has always been a pleasure for a person who loves adventure sport. Mountain biking in India is full of fun and adventurous. This Cycling tour of South India has been specially designed for people wanting to experience the spirit of freedom and have the zeal for adventure the India Holiday Mall needs no introduction as a pioneer in the promotion of adventure activities. For the first time the India Holiday Mall introducing a cycle expedition in Kodagu (Coorg). Coorg occupies a prominent position in the humid tropical belt of Western Ghats.

You will get the feel of local south Indian culture by biking through it and stopping at the villages and small towns. This cycling tour offers an amazing number of tiny foothill villages, falls, local life of people and cultures. During your cycling, there is an opportunity to see Elephants, Sambar, Deer, etc. This cycling tour will get you closer to nature and amazing picturesque.

The name Coorg is the anglicized form of the word 'Kodagu' delivered from 'KODE MALENADU' meaning dense forest land on steep hills. Kodagu (Coorg) is called the Switzerland of India and Kashmir of south India.

Tour Itinerary

Day 1 - Arrive Bangalore

Bangalore, capital of the Union State of Karnataka, famous as the `Garden City', was once a summer resort of the British Raj. Bangalore palace Bangalore is one of the most attractive cities in India with its beautiful parks, avenues and impressive buildings.

Today, it is one of India's prosperous thriving commercial and industrial centers, also referred to as the `Silicon Valley' where most of the big electronics and computer companies have their centers also known as "Garden City" of India.

Met upon arrival in Bangalore & transfer to your hotel (Please note that the check-in time is 1200 hrs, early check-in can be requested but cannot be guaranteed).

Later in the day proceed for the sightseeing & visit the garden city including the Lal Bagh Botanical Gardens. The gardens are said to be laid out by Haidar Ali and his son Tipu Sultan as a summer garden in the 18th century, has numerous flowers, hundred-year-old trees from many countries and the Lotus Pond.

Proceed to the Bull Temple in Dravidian style with the huge monolith statue of Shiva's vehicle, the sacred Nandi Bull, nearly 5 m high and 6 m long., in grey granite polished.

Also, drive through Vidhan Sabha (legislative assembly) with its impressive facades and portals of pure sandalwood.

Day 2 - Bangalore - Coorg

After breakfast drive to Coorg. Coorg or Kodagu (originally called Kodaimalenadu) means 'dense forest on steep hill'. Dubbed as the Scotland of India, this town has a lot to offer to the tourist. Misty hills, lush forest, acres and acres of tea and coffee plantation, orange groves, undulating streets, and breathtaking views are what make Madikeri an unforgettable holiday destination.

Enroute visit of Bylekuppe, which is famous for monasteries has having consists of a number of agricultural settlements / small camps close to Coorg Tourto each other and has a number of monasteries, nunneries, and temples in all the major Tibetan Buddhist traditions. Most notable among them are the large educational monastic institution Sera, the smaller Tashilunpo monastery (both in the Gelukpa tradition) and the Namdroling monastery (in the Nyingma tradition).

Later on drive to Coorg.

Coorg is on the Western Ghats. Set amidst verdant valleys, imposing mountains and teak wood forests, this is one of the most beautiful hill stations you can visit. It lies on Karnataka's southwestern end, covering an area of 4,102 sq km. The river Cauvery originates here at Talacauvery and is worshipped by the locals.

On arrival check-in at the hotel. Meet with your Team Leader, who will lead this Bike Tour. Today you can see your bikes & have the first test ride of these bikes. The Team Leader will brief the group regarding the technical aspect of the bikes. This session will include briefing regarding safety, dos/don'ts, road conditions, rules & regulations, etc.

After the introduction and briefing, you will have an opportunity to ride your bikes to get used to your bike for the rest of the tour. Overnight stay at Coorg (1170 Meters), headquarters of Coorg District.

Day 3 - Coorg - Apangala

After breakfast, proceed to Apangala (19 Kms) by Bicycle. In Apangala, you can visit The Cardamom Research Centre.

The Cardamom Research Center is the regional center of the Indian Institute of Spices Research, Kozhikode, in Kerala. The center conducts research on all aspects of cardamom and cardamom based cropping systems. It also performs multiplication and distribution of improved varieties of cardamom, black pepper, and tree spices. Consultancy and advisory services are offered to growers. In addition, the center imparts training to farmers and officers of developmental departments on spice production and processing technologies.

Later return back to hotels by Jeep.

Day 4 - Coorg - Apangala - Charan Banae

After breakfast, drive by our Jeeps till Apanagala. From here your cycling trip will start till Charan Banane (Approx. 20 Kms). Today you will visit Herawanadu School Siddappaji Mutt.

Later return back to the hotel by Jeeps.

Day 5 - Coorg - Charan Banae - Baghamandala

After breakfast at around 8 am proceed to Charan Banane, from where you will start your cycling till Baghamandala (Approx.18 km). The ride will be through coffee & pepper plantations and Rice fields. Bhagamandala is situated at the confluence of two rivers, the Kaveri and the Kanika. A third river, the Sujyothi is said to join from underground. Baghamandala is a temple town and a Holy place for South Indians.

Later return back to the hotel by Jeeps.

Day 6 - Coorg - Nishani Betta

After breakfast, proceed for a walking tour to Nishani Betta, which is known for the scenic viewpoint. Nishani Betta is supposed to the tallest with the most rugged path. It is a pathway to Kerala since one can reach the borders of Kerala by crossing Nishani Betta. While walking you may spot and relish varied types of fruits, plants, and trees.

Later return back to the hotel.

Day 7 - Coorg - Abbey Falls

After breakfast proceeds for a walking tour to Abbey Falls. The Abbey falls produces a spectacular sight of cascading water. Nestled amidst private coffee plantations, the Abbey Falls provide a striking contrast to the sylvan surroundings of Coorg. A narrow road winding through the green and dense foliage of surrounding coffee plantations leads to Abbey Falls. The gushing waters of the Abbey fall, tumbling down a rocky ravine, results in a deafening sound that can be heard from a distance. During the monsoon season, the Abbey swells with abundant seasonal rains with water plunging down the mountain slope at enormous speed.

Later return back to the hotel Overnight at the hotel.

Day 8 - Coorg

After breakfast, day is at Leisure.

Today we will arrange Ayurveda Massages for you. Ayurveda is a system of traditional medicine native to the Indian subcontinent and practiced in other parts of the world as a form of alternative medicine.

Day 9 - Coorg - Mysore

After breakfast, taking the memory of an exciting Cycling trip drive towards Mysore. Upon arrival check-in at the hotel. rice fields The rest of the day at leisure in Mysore.

Day 10 - Mysore

Mysore the former capital of the princely state is the second-largest city in Karnataka. It is a beautiful city of stately palaces, gardens, parks, and museums. Sandalwood and a center for the manufacture of incense sticks.

Visit the Maharaja Palace (1857): that was once the residence of the Wodeyars, built-in Indo Saracenic style in grand proportions, with domes, arches, and colonnades of carved pillars and shiny marble floors. One of the largest palaces in the country with some art treasures, it is beautifully restored and maintained.

Proceed to the Chamundi Hill, the temple of Durga (Chamundeswari) celebrating her victory over the buffalo god. She became the guardian deity o the Wodeyars. On the road to the top is the giant Nandi Monolith carved in 1659 (4,8m x 7,6m huge bull sculpture).

Day 11 - Mysore - Hassan

After breakfast, drive to Hassan.

Hassan is a picturesque, quiet and peaceful town. The city acts as an entry point to famous archeological sites Belur, Halebid and Shravanabelgola, all situated in its close vicinity. The name Hassan comes from the name of the presiding deity Goddess Haasanamba. Founded back in the 11th century by Channa Krishnappa Naik, Hassan has a very bleak history. It was under the rule of the Hoysala dynasty from the 11th century till the 13th century. It was during this period that the splendid temples of Halebid and Belur were built.

Visit Halebid and Belur. The Hoysalesvara Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva at Halebid is perched on a star-shaped base. Every centimeter of the outside wall of this temple and much of the interior is covered with an endless variety of Hindu deities, sages, animals, and birds. A few kilometers further we reach Belur. The religious capital of Hoysala. Visit the ornamental gopuram of the Chennakesava Temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu, which appears unexpectedly around a bend. It took 103 years to complete.

Day 12 - Hassan - Bangalore

After breakfast drive to Bangalore.

Arrive Bangalore and transfer to the Hotel.

Day 13 - Bangalore Departure

In time transfer to the Bangalore airport to board your flight to onward destination.
